Research

Understanding the unique experiences and perceptions had by all members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community is of the utmost importance to us at The Belonging Initiative.

Each demographic has unique intersectional experiences that deserve to be heard and valued in the fight to make change within the mental health system.

Therefore, research is being conducted through both academic psychological studies as well as the national survey created by Shaelyn Hunter.

The Belonging Initiative National Survey

The Belonging Initiative National Survey was created by Shaelyn in 2024, in order to gain insights into as many experiences as possible. The survey is completely anonymous and available Canada-wide.

We believe the greatest change is only possible when we thoroughly consider the perceptions of those from different backgrounds than us. Therefore, data from the survey is considered just as important as findings from journal articles.
